How to Wash and Care for Bamboo Fibre Socks
Bamboo fibre socks are loved for their softness and comfort. To keep their colours, shape and elasticity, all it takes is a little care when washing and drying. Here is the practical guide.
How to wash them
- Cold water. Machine wash at a low temperature, or wash by hand. Cold water helps keep colours and size.
- Inside out. Turn them inside out before washing: it reduces rubbing and pilling on the surface.
- Gentle detergent. Choose one for coloured or delicate garments.
- No bleach or whitening agents. They can damage fibres and colours.
- No fabric softener. It tends to coat the fibres and reduce breathability.
- Separate colours. Especially for the first wash, so the fabrics do not stain each other.
How to dry them
Avoid the tumble dryer: strong heat can shrink socks and reduce their elasticity. Air dry them away from direct heat sources, for example on a drying rack. They dry quickly because they are thin.
Ironing? Better not
There is no need to iron socks, and it is best not to: heat can damage the elasticity. If they have a few creases, these disappear on their own when you wear them.
Small everyday habits
- Rotate several pairs through the week: each sock gets time to rest and keeps its shape better.
- Pull the sock up from the heel, not from the cuff, so you do not strain the fabric.
- Trim your toenails and check your shoes: rough spots are the most common cause of holes.
- Always follow the product label, which shows the washing symbols.
Why it is worth it
Looking after your socks means replacing them less often. It is also a more sustainable choice: a garment that lasts longer avoids waste. If you want to know more about the material, read our guide to bamboo fibre socks.
